And so it begins, again.

For those of you that are blissfully unaware, I'm currently in Australia. Darwin, Northern Territory - to be exact. Beginning tomorrow, I'll be cycling for some unknown, but very large, distance through the driest and most desolate naturally inhabited continent on our little blue planet. In case you were wondering, this is roughly what my route will be.

Adventerous? Yes. Difficult? For sure. A bit wonky? Of course. How will this work exactly? I'm not really sure! I've already been a few days delayed by United Airlines mislabeling my luggage as this guys...

yes, my bike was left in LAX baggage claim for a few days, and this B-list actors in Sydney. Woops. Consolation prize? $50 per day to pay for expenses. Great, right? Hardly pays for anything here up in Darwin..it is the most expensive place in Australia, so I hear. I looked at a small apartment that was selling for $610,000 AUD..that's basically 600,000 USD. But WHY! Darwin's population is maybe, maybe, 100,000. There isn't a department store. There isn't a "cultural center." There isn't a nephrologist. And last night I paid $15 for a double bourbon at some dinky place. But, the weather is wonderful given that it is 12 degrees south of the equator. And there are lots of aboriginals here!

Playing their drums on the side of the street for money, they are pretty clearly outside of the ozzy society. and so I hear, they can be a bit of trouble in rural areas when they are drunk, but no worse than the English here! Most of the Englishmen I've encountered in Thailand, India, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Hong Kong, and China have been pretty chill. But here, they've really got the white English rubbish. Drinking for 8-10 hours a day and getting into fights with everyone..I don't see how the ozzies put up with it! Well, this post has been all over the place and I've got to buy some food for tomorrow, as well as do a few test-rides of my bike to make sure I've got everything the way I'd like it to be. I'll post some pictures after I visit the rainforest later this week.
